Regulation is "controlling human or societal behavior by rules or restrictions." Regulation can take many forms: legal restrictions promulgated by a government authority, self-regulation by an industry such as through a trade association, social regulation (e.g. norms), co-regulation and market regulation. One can consider regulation as actions of conduct imposing sanctions (such as a fine). This action of administrative law, or implementing regulatory law, may be contrasted with statutory or case law.

Regulation mandated by a state attempts to produce outcomes which might not otherwise occur, produce or prevent outcomes in different places to what might otherwise occur, or produce or prevent outcomes in different timescales than would otherwise occur. In this way, regulations can be seen as implementation artifacts of policy statements. Common examples of regulation include controls on market entries, prices, wages, Development approvals, pollution effects, employment for certain people in certain industries, standards of production for certain goods, the military forces and services. The economics of imposing or removing regulations relating to markets is analysed in regulatory economics.

Regulation?
Q. I have just seen my psychologist and she wants to get me assessed by a psychiatrist and regulate me. What does this mean? She told me that as much as she wants to do this, she feels that it would be detrimental to our relationship, and she doesn't want to take away my power. Is she doing the right thing by letting me go, or should she follow her instincts and do what she feels is right? By the way, I forgot to mention that I live in Australia, so I assume that it would be different here than say in the USA.

A. Yes, I would say she did the right thing. Instead of "hogging" you, she felt she did what she could and refer you to another professional. I do not know what the problems are, but I feel that if she lets you go like that and is being very frank and honest about it with you, then I guess she is being very professional. You don't have to take it personally at all. Alternatively, try to see another psychologist for a second opinion then, if you have your qualms about seeing a psychiatrist.

What is an example of up-regulation and down-regulation in production or reduction of receptors?
Q. In regards to hormone receptors for up and down regulation. What is an example of each?

A. This link will help. Basically, the cells of the body will increase the number of receptors to a certain hormone or neurotransmitter when it chemically detects a low concentration of those molecules. This is up-regulation and it is what makes our cells sensitive to the certain molecule, which allows for a strong cellular response. The cells down-regulate, or decrease the number of receptors on it in order to desensitize the cell to the certain molecule, when it chemically detects that there is a high concentration of those molecules. This desensitization makes it so the cells don't generate a response. These two work in tandem to maintain homeostasis. It's an especially important concept in the production of insulin and the management… [cont.]

Is there a state or federal regulation on food server hairstyle?
Q. I live in California, and have always been under the impression that food servers with hairlength longer than their shoulders must pull their hair back and off the shoulder. Can anyone site a regulation to back this up? Am I wrong?

A. i can't find a site for you but it is true..if its long enough to put up in a pony tail it better be there..plus why the hell would you want to keep it down..do you know how gross that is..whether you realize it or not, your hair comes out all day long, nothing worse than someone finding your hair in their food..plus with your hair moving all aroud while it is down, you could get dander on the food, and thats another way hair falls out..plus a person with long hair could lean forward to get something and their hair could touch the food..its just not sanitary..
