How can I become more powerful while debating with others?
Q. I feel weakness while debating with others and feel that my mind is changeable very easily by others. What are the basic principles of a good debate?
Asked by soorena - Mon Nov 27 04:22:29 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. read and read and read and understand..read magazines and newspapers about the current events...most especially if it is a parliamentary debate...because the topic is only given thirty minutes or so before the debate..right..so you've got to read news articles and watch tv programs which are related to the current events..while the the other debaters are delivering their speeches,,listen carefully and be sure that you know what they are talking about so that you can make a factual and firm statement..your mind is easily change because maybe you know little about the topic...

A. there are 3 essential qualities of a debater. Manner, matter, method. Manner- how convincing the speaker is. A speaker can be lying out right, but if he looks convincing enough no one will question his logic. To become good at this speak in front of a mirror or your family and ask for comments. Matter- this is what the speaker knows, in debating it should be a little bit of everything. To become good at this you need to read, watch and study. any topic. Note: false matter is when a debater lies but is accepted, by the debaters. You can get away with this if you sound very convincing. Method: This is a technical quality, because you need a specific debate template to attain clarity.

A. The only two I can remember are BM and DA. The Boston Massacre is really a dirty tactic, where the debater starts listing every possible fact they can think of to totally overwhelm the opponent - in the hope that they are confused and end up only picking a couple of points to counter. It's akin to shooting a thousand bullets and hoping that by sheer volume some of them will hit. The Devil's Advocate came from the Vatican and canonization of new Saints. When candidate Bob came up for discussion, they found that it was all one-sided... here's the reasons Bob should be a Saint. They therefore created the person to argue against it - the Devil's Advocate - who, no matter if they agreed with a point or no - would argue against it. It is a… [cont.]

Q. So, as far as I can tell, Slobodan Milosevic wrote a letter to his judges debating the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, in which (in 5 points) he stated that the trial was essentially a sham, as the ICTY had no jurisdiction, and that he was being mistreated... Christians: What is the one point about your faith that you enjoy debating with non-theists?
Q. What do you love debating about with your non-theist friends?
Asked by Assoc. Prof. Judo Chop - Mon Feb 23 23:11:57 2009 - - 27 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I used to like to debate the purpose of life. If you move beyond "God's Love" you can find some good common ground. I also like to debate with those who are trying to prove the Christ never existed, because there is plenty of non-biblical written evidence to support it. (Obviously, I can't prove He is the Son of God and ressurected.) But it's nice to feel right about that.

Q. I need help with this subject! I only have until monday to do this speech and i need some good arguments for. This debate is so i can get into the debating team, so we are just versing one other person from my class. If you have any good arguments for please tell me! thanks!

A. You can take time to savor the parts you like. You can go back and reread if you think you missed the importance of something. You can skip parts you don't like, yet go back to read them if it proves necessary later. If you like the book, you can find out if the author has written anything else and enjoy that, too, later.

I am going to buy a new ps3 game and I am debating between several games?
Q. I am debating between buying the following games: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Assassins Creed Area 51 F.E.A.R. If you have played any of these games, I would appreciate a quick review and whether it was fun and worth the cost. If you have played them all or more than one, which one would you choose? Why?

A. I would honestly have to say Uncharted. It takes some of the things from all these games and turns it literally into a summer blockbuster version of a game. The rest of these games aren't even that great except for Assasins Creed (even though that gets old kind of fast).
