Nouncomputers
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a set of instructions. Although mechanical examples of computers have existed through much of recorded human history, the first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). These were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs). Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space. Simple computers are small enough to fit into a wristwatch, and can be powered by a watch battery. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "computers". The embedded computers found in many devices from MP3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are however the most numerous. The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile, distinguishing them from calculators. The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore computers ranging from a mobile phone to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks, given enough time and storage capacity. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Can connecting another computer to my network influence the connections of the other computers? Q. I had two computers both connected to a wireless router. Yesterday I connected a third computer to the network and, although the connection goes through for this new computer, one of the original computers now says "Limited or no connectivity" and cannot connect to the Internet. Is it possible that the new computer is using up too much bandwidth and is therefore preventing the other computer from accessing the Internet? Me and my roommates have 3 computers, 2 are connected with wireless, and the other one is plugged into the router. 2 have vista and one has XP. How can i make the music folders on each computer shared, so I can just drag songs off the other computers onto mine? I tried networking it and it always ask for a password to access the other computers. How would I do this using XP and Vista ? Thanks! You can try foldershare This program syncs folders between multiple computers and whats kinda cool is that you can invite ANYONE to access your files. However, you can define what kind of access he/she has. I run an anime group with it, and of course I want my admins and contributers to have write rights, but I don't want the people who just download to have delete or change or add rights. It works rather well. You could each share your music folders with each other, or you could make one massive folder. On a side note, foldershare is a great way to share things like My Documents across multiple computers. I have 5 computers and it is nice to have all my documents on every machine. What is even cooler is that I have a remote machine… [cont.] Answered by tech_guy_towt - Sat Jan 19 13:38:49 2008 What will happen if an operating system designed for 32-bit computers is installed in computer of 64 bits?
Q. Suppose you install a certain operating system that is designed for 32-bit computers in a computer that has a processor of 64 bits. Will the Operating System work anyway in that computer of 64-bit processor? I know that if you do it the other way round: installing an operating system designed for 64-bit computers in a 32-bit computer, it won't work. Asked by Le Han - Wed Aug 26 08:47:42 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Operating systems are designed to work on either set up. Whether it is an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) OS. All in all there is no difference between the two set ups, only your CPU can be bottlenecked slightly, and you are limited to 3.5gb of RAM.
